20 Israeli startups qualify for Future Sport 2015 in the UK
British sporting legends and industry experts select the Israeli companies to come on a unique roadshow

On 19 January 2015, six expert judges from the world of sport came together at the Embassy of Israel in London to select the twenty Israeli companies who would be invited to the UK for the Future Sport roadshow.
Dozens of Israeli companies had applied to be join this roadshow being organised by Israel’s Economic & Trade Mission to the UK and supported by the Israel Export Institute.
Part of the ‘Future Israel’ series, the aim of Future Sport 2015 is to combine the technological prowess of Israeli innovations with the acclaimed might of the British sporting industry.
Previous activities in the ‘Future Israel’ series have resulted in business relationships between British and Israeli companies. Israeli ecommerce analytics startup Marketyze and multinational phone retailer Carphone Warehouse and Israeli augmented reality startup Cimagine and British online retailer Shop Direct are two examples of business ties created as a result of previous Future Israel events.
The judging panel was chaired by Daniel Saunders, Chief of Staff at Israel’s Economic & Trade Mission to the UK. The judges included Lord David Triesman, Former Chairman of the Football Association; Terry Venables, Former England Football Manager; Jonathan Lenson, Business Development Director, WPP; Mike Hodgson, Head of Innovation Engagement, BT plc; Daniel Shakhani, Chief Executive, RDS Capital; and Frank Meehan, Founding Partner, SparkLabs Global.
Each company’s pitch was scrutinised and the technology was analysed for its originality and potential for the UK market. After hours of discussion and debate, the panel selected the twenty innovative and diverse companies. The chosen companies offer various technologies including player analytics, wireless transmission, image manipulation, injury prevention, fan engagement, monetisation, interactivity, ticketing and others.
‘Future Sport 2015’ will place 24-26 March and the successful delegates will be taken to the head offices of some of the major British sports organisations, such as major clubs, stadiums and broadcasters. Across the country, the delegates will meet with leading industry players and have the opportunity to demonstrate how their technologies can complement the great British sporting establishments.
The three day roadshow will launch with the Israel Future Sport Innovation Day. This will be held at an exclusive venue in London where the companies will present to targeted audience and meet one-to-one with relevant partners.
Commenting at the judging panel, technology investor Frank Meehan said, “The Future Sport initiative showcases the recent rapid growth of tech startups bringing innovation to a wide range of sport and health related sectors.”
Nathan Tsror, the Economic Attaché noted, “This will be Israel’s first event of its kind in the sporting arena and we look are excited to see how Future Sport will generate opportunities akin to those achieved through previous Future Israel activities.”
